What is VITA and how can I get assistance for free tax filing preparation?

Answer

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is an IRS free tax preparation program that assists lower and middle income residents who need tax assistance. Thirty-seven Brooklyn College accounting students are certified by the IRS to prepare Federal and New York State personal tax returns. The students are supervised by the Brooklyn College Accounting Department and Single Stop (a not-for-profit organization). All filings are confidential and online. For further information on how to get assistance, please visit http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/academics/centers/vita.php
