Can I deposit my dissertation before I defend?
Answer
The library deposit is the last degree requirement for the Ph.D. and it occurs after a successful defense. At the defense, the committee may approve the dissertation as presented or require revisions (minor or major). Depositing the dissertation with the library occurs after the dissertation is formally approved by the committee and all paperwork is filed with the Registrar.
Students should plan sufficient time after the defense for manuscript preparation and associated author tasks like copy editing, proofreading references, and obtaining copyright permissions (if necessary).
