How do I link to a library resource within Brightspace?
Answer
When providing students with links to articles/e-resources, faculty should either link to the article in OneSearch OR use CSI's EZproxy link.
- This allows the library to measure usage rates, which is taken into consideration when making budgetary decisions.
- This practice also helps to familiarize students with using the library database.
- It also makes it easy for students to access these resources from off campus.
What is the OneSearch link?
If an article is directly available in our OneSearch catalog, you get a link that works on or off campus with only a few clicks!
- First search for the article in our OneSearch catalog, which is available on our library homepage. Searching by important words in the title or by title and author usually works best!
- Next click on the title of the article you need.
- Finally click on the chainlink "permalink" icon and copy the link
What is the EZProxy link?
The EZProxy prefix is: http://csi.ezproxy.cuny.edu/login?url=
If students are accessing the reading from off-campus, this link will prompt them for their SLAS username and password. Check out how do I access library databases off campus for more information.
How do I use the EZProxy link?
You can prepend the EZProxy prefix to any links from our CSI database using the following steps:
Obtain the link to your article
http://www.article.com
Get the EZProxy link
http://csi.ezproxy.cuny.edu/login?url=
Put the proxy link (in yellow) before the article link (in purple) to end up with this link:
http://csi.ezproxy.cuny.edu/login?url=https://article.com
Example
Let's try an example. You wish to assign your students Fred Moten's The University and the Undercommons: Seven Theses.
The link for this article is this:
(You can find instructions for finding permalinks in individual online resources below.)
