How do I access UpToDate, a nursing and health sciences resource?

UpToDate is a great resource for students and faculty in many disciplines. However it does require all users to create an account on the UpToDate website.

The first time you use UpToDate, you will need to log in through an UpToDate link on the Library website using your CUNY Login information when prompted. You can also use this UpToDate link here. The CUNY Login prompt works just like all our resources, but you will need to log in both on and off campus. When you reach the UpToDate page, select "Register Now" to create an account. You can use any username, password, and email you like!

If you get a message that your "email is recognized" and you haven't used UpToDate recently, you might have an expired account; go ahead and recover your username and password. If you have a personal account you paid for, just use those credentials the first time you log in through the CSI Library website. That will preserve your CME information and you can transition to a CSI-based subscription as soon as you let your paid account expire. Please get in touch with us if you have any problems.

After you have your personal UpToDate account, you can access the resource in two ways:

  • Use any link on the library website with your CUNY Login and UpToDate account credentials; OR
  • Go directly to the UpToDate website or the free mobile app and just use your personal UpToDate account. You can bypass the Library website for 90 days, but then you will need to use an UpToDate link on the Library website and log in through your CUNY Login. Once you do, you are set for another 90 days!
    • If you are approaching the 90 day limit, UpToDate will provide a pop-up message asking you to "re-verify your affiliation." That is just their way of saying you should go to the library website and log in to UpToDate through a library link.

UpToDate can be accessed through the web on any browser of your choice, but it may not work properly if you are using "incognito" or "privacy" mode.

To use the mobile app, you must first create an account as described above. Then simply download the app from the iOS or Android store and log in with the personal UpToDate credentials you created. You will need to return to the library website once every 90 days when prompted.
